    Position Summary:

    HarperCollins Canada, a division of HarperCollins Publishers Ltd, a leading global publisher of books for adults and children, is seeking a dynamic and well-connected Senior Editor to edit and selectively acquire a range of commercial non-fiction and fiction for the local publishing program.


    The ideal candidate has strong editorial experience, knowledge of the industry and a proven track record, and is a proactive team player who can work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment, balancing the needs of multiple stakeholders. A strong knowledge of project-based finances is also required.


    Major Accountabilities:

    • Substantive and line editing of manuscripts
    • Acquiring select titles of commercial and commercial literary fiction with a broad portfolio of rights
    • Working with the Editorial Director, Collins Canada, to identify and acquire select high-potential non-fiction projects through a variety of sources that include non-fiction commissions
    • Project managing and seeing through to publication multiple books at a time on schedule
    • Writing descriptive copy and selling copy for use online and in print
    • Positioning books in-house and externally for maximum success
    • Communicating regularly with the Editorial Director, Fiction, Editorial Director, Collins Canada, and the Publisher
    • Providing the best possible care and attention to authors
    • Attending launches and industry events


     Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

    • A minimum of 5 years’ experience at a senior level, editing both fiction and non-fiction
    • A proven track record of acquisitions and taking books through to successful publication
    • A strong working knowledge of book-specific financials, including costings
    • Knowledge of the book industry and the market
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
    • Strong written and oral communication skills
    • Proven ability to meet deadlines, determine priorities and pay attention to detail
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office
