    Department: Publicity
    Reports to: Senior Director, Marketing
    Location: 22 Adelaide Street West, Toronto

     

    Job Summary:
    Planning and directing promotional awareness of HarperCollins titles in the Canadian market while developing and maintaining strong relationships with the media, authors and fellow employees. 

    Responsibilities

    Major Accountabilities:

    • Hire and manage all publicity staff
    • Mentor and advise all publicists 
    • Assist publicists in problem solving 
    • Determine publicity priorities for all publishing programs including CND, US, UK, HQN and HCCP in consultation with sales and marketing
    • Develop publicity strategies for individual books and genres
    • Participate in publishing board meeting offering publicity perspective on potential acquisitions
    • Create marketing acquisition plans
    • Participate in author/agent meeting prior to and after acquisition 
    • Oversee all publicity budgets including forecasting
    • Develop and maintain relationships with media, booksellers, literary festival agents
    • Handle all aspects of individual publicity campaigns, including:
      • Creating press releases, pitch letters, interview topics/questions
      • Pitching and securing media 
      • Plan and manage all aspects of author tours, incl. events, media, travel, accommodation, etc. 

    Qualifications

    Qualifications, Skills and Competencies:

    • Specific training or job experience required:
    • 7+ years of experience in publicity, preferably in the publishing industry
    • High degree of written and verbal communication skills
    • Able to multi-task, determine priorities, and remain cool under pressure 
    • Excellent organizational abilities
    • Excellent leadership skills
    • Book publishing courses or certificate an asset
    • Driver’s License an asset
